Splatoon 3: Switch shooter breaks records

The squid shooter Splatoon is one of the newer game ideas from Nintendo. The meanwhile third part of the series is already an absolute blockbuster. As Nintendo proudly announces, Splatoon 3 sold more than 3.45 million copies in Japan in the first three days after its release on September 9th (Source: Nintendo ).

Splatoon 3 breaks records with it. With the launch success, the colorful shooter Animal Crossing surpassed New Horizons, which previously held the title for the best launch of a Switch game in Japan . Even more impressive: Even off the Switch, there is no game that has sold so well in Japan in such a short time. Splatoon 3 has replaced Pok√©mon Black and White Edition for this ( Daniel Ahmad on Twitter ).

Nintendo can be happy: Splatoon 3 is well received

The predecessor Splatoon 2 was sold 13.3 million times as of March 2022. However, with such a successful launch, the odds are pretty good that Splatoon 3 will still hit that milestone. Nintendo can also be satisfied with the sales figures for the switch console . The hybrid console is even on the verge of surpassing the PlayStation 4 as the second best-selling console ever .

Splatoon 3 has been well received by both fans and critics. Our colleagues from spieletipps gave the shooter 81 out of 100 points in the test . The successful story mode and the well-known multiplayer gameplay are praised . However, you shouldn’t expect a big revolution compared to its predecessors.
