Niantic ‘s games were once considered great hope and generated hype. Remember Ingress or even now Pokémon Go. Building on these successes, the same pattern was tried again and again. Send people out to fight or collect something. Was rather semi, because many of these games have already been discontinued. Unfortunately, this is now also being felt by the employees.

” We recently decided to halt production on some projects and reduce our workforce by approximately 8 percent to focus on our top priorities, ” Jonny Thaw, Niantic’s VP of Communications, said in a statement to US media Bloomberg.

” This means we can focus on our key priorities, including Pokémon Go and a select number of new experiences, as well as the Lightship platform. This increased focus, coupled with our strong core business, positions us to weather the broader economic uncertainty many companies are facing and continue to invest in the future of AR .”

Let’s see what the future brings. An NBA game was recently announced – and Peridot is still on the agenda.
