Until now, the market for foldable smartphones has been dominated by Samsung, but perhaps the arrival of the Motorola Razr 3 will put a stop to that.
According to the reliable leaker OnLeaks, in collaboration with CompareDial(opens in new tab), the Motorola Razr 3 will cost 1,149 euros. This makes the new Motorola more than 250 euros cheaper than the starting price of the Motorola Razr 2020 .
The phone will reportedly only be released in the Quartz Black color, but according to reliable leaker EvLeaks(opens in new tab)the phone will also come in the Tranquil Blue color.
The Motorola Razr 3 has a 6.7 inch folding screen, and a second 3 inch screen. This is already a big improvement over the Razr 2020.
In addition, the new phone has a powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset, 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The new chip in particular is a big improvement, because we were not exactly happy with the Snapdragon 765G chip of the Motorola Razr 2020.
The source concludes by saying that the Razr 3 will be released in China in July, followed by the rest of the world.
Analysis: good, but not good enough
With bigger screens, a more powerful chipset and a cheaper price, the Motorola Razr 3 would be a huge improvement over the Motorola Razr 2020. Unfortunately, Motorola doesn’t have to compete with itself, but with Samsung.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 is also expected this year, and the Flip 4 is also reportedly cheaper than its predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 had a starting price of 1,049 euros, and we already thought that this foldable smartphone was very competitively priced. The Flip 4 is apparently getting even cheaper, and the original price of the Flip 3 was already below the price of the Razr 3.
Like the Razr 3, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 is rumored to have a 6.7-inch screen and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Plus chipset. The Motorola Razr 3 does have 4GB more RAM, and probably more storage than its direct competitor. The Flip 4’s second screen would be just 1.9 inches, compared to Motorola’s 3-inch screen.
In terms of specifications, the Motorola Razr 3 may be the winner, but the lower price of the Fold 4 and Samsung’s brand awareness will make it an uphill battle.
