After a long time, the manufacturer Bowers & Wilkins has released an update for the Px7 series, for which there was always a new model variant. The Px7 S2 is brand new, which according to the manufacturer should represent a completely new design. These include a new acoustic system, a new angled driver system with FEA-optimized housing, a larger voice coil, improved ANC, an optimized microphone arrangement and a revised design for even better wearing comfort. The devices are available from this month, appear in black, blue and gray and cost 429 euros.

The ear cushions have also been redesigned specifically for eyeglass wearers so that the temples no longer cause “acoustic leaks or pressure points on the side of the head”. The weight, on the other hand, has only been minimally reduced, according to B&W in the press email. The ANC used in the Px7 S2 is based on the system of the PX7, but is said to have been optimized again in various corners. The battery life was not extended because the “optimum” was already achieved with the PX7 with up to 30 hours, and there was simply no reason to improve it again. That means: With 15 minutes of short charging, you can listen to music for 5 more hours. The headphones take 3 hours to fully charge.

Also new is the Bowers & Wilkins Music app, which replaces the previous Headphones app. There you can make custom equalizer settings, among other things. A transparency mode can also be activated. Regarding the microphones, the following has been changed:

  • Position the two microphones closer together to improve how the noise reduction works
  • to optimize the angle of the microphones for better intelligibility
  • the fundamental new position of the two microphones to reduce wind noise
  • the use of a new noise reduction mechanism

But the drivers have also been fine-tuned. Angled driver units are now also used here, which, among other things, should also “position the sound stage a little more forward”. The stereo quality of the headphones is said to have been improved by the steeper angle.
